The name “Citadella” comes from the Italian word meaning “fortress”, and it has served as a military stronghold throughout Hungary\u2019s turbulent history. The story of the Citadella dates back to the Turkish occupation, when a palisade castle was built on Gell\u00e9rt Hill for defensive purposes.
